Zog Facebook demands that Redbad trailer must be removed. If this is not free censorship on our real history I don’t know how else to call it.
ZFacebook has asked to the creators of the new Dutch film Redbad to remove the trailer from their channel. The company also has been threatened to bring the promotional film of this historical epic, which will premiere at the end of June, to the attention of worldwide users and history lovers.
The producer Klaas de Jong reported this on Saturday. According to Facebook, the Redbad trailer is “insulting large populations”, reports the internet service in a letter to the makers of the film.
The film is about the Frisian hero Radboud (Gijs Naber) who, in the early Middle Ages, with the help of the Vikings, fought against the Christians who attacked with cruelty their faith in their original countries. The resistance to forced conversion to Christianity is an important theme in the film.
“From our Dutch perspective, resistance to Christianity is not a big issue,” says De Jong. “But in the rest of the world that is apparently still a huge thing, I really fell for my seat: it is bizarre that Americans now want to determine what should be offensive to the Dutch.”
The makers have done a lot of archival research on the Frisian hero Redbad to make a film that does bring justice to the real history and real facts behind the untold dramas lived by people. “But apparently we have a sensitive chord,” says De Jong. “Even before anyone has seen one scene, we already got hundreds of angry mails and letters claiming that we have violated history.”
De Jong says that he can not adjust or remove the Redbad trailer.
Earlier, the rights were already sold to the US and several countries in the Middle East.
Director Roel Reiné, who worked in Hollywood for the past ten years, turned the historical epic last autumn in the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.
