Voyage of the Damned is a movie based on a true story , a story that will change your mind on who really hated Jews and what really happened to them before of the second worldwide war…
Voyage of the Damned is a 1976 film based on a 1974 book written by Gordon Thomas and Max Morgan-Witts with the same title.
Inspired by true events concerning the fate of the MS St. Louis ocean liner carrying Jewish refugees from Germany to Cuba and then to United States and further countries in 1939.
MS St. Louis departed from Hamburg carrying 937 Jews from Germany, ostensibly to Havana, Cuba. This voyage was an idea of Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels in order to expose who had to be blamed for any incoming Jewish fate. Thus it is told as an emotional journey of passengers who are struggling for their freedom but step after step they become aware that their voyage is a revealing and riveting truth of propaganda because Cuba refused them for first then United States rejected them as second. A Nazi official states that “[..]when the whole world has refused to accept them as refugees, no country can blame Germany for the fate of the Jews[…]”.
The ship then got no choice but to return to Europe. It is revealed that Belgium, France, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom have each agreed to accept a share of the passengers as refugees but less than 300 of the 937 passengers who were not disembarked being not accepted as out of share had to back in Germany.
1939 , United States, this makes think and remember:
The Times cover featured a man painted and sitting in the back while playing an organ, who should be Adolf Hitler in “his hymn of hate in a desecrated cathedral while victims dangle on a St. Catherine’s wheel and the Nazi hierarchy looks on.” This picture was drawn by Baron Rudolph Charles von Ripper, a German Catholic who had fled Hitler’s Germany.
The Man of the Year cover had been a Time tradition since 1927 when Charles Lindbergh became the first Man of the Year. Ironically, Lindbergh was an admirer of Hitler and Nazi Germany; he became active in the America First organization which opposed America entering World War II in the fight against Adolf Hitler.
Most people react, understandably and sensibly, with horror when learning that Hitler was chosen by Time magazine as Man of the Year, 1939, pathetically , they hypocrites didn’t react when those Jews refugees were rejected in that same year by the same United States as sovereignty of themselves?
